Children's Comments

Last August.
Danielle (Granddaughter) at the clinic (aged 13 at time)
Danielle. "Nanna, why don't you get them to chop off your bad leg and I will get dad to make you a new one on his lathe?"
Nanna. "Well Danielle, we are going to get them to amputate it."
Danielle. "Oh, well that's OK then."

Before the Amputation
James (Foster Grandson aged 7)
Simeon (Grandson aged 7)
James: When they take your leg off, will they put it in a paper bag for you to bring it home like they did my tooth?
Simeon. " What will happen when they chop the leg off, will all Nanna's blood run away?"

After the Amputation
James: "Auntie Carol, have you got your new leg yet?"
Carol: "No, not yet"
James. "I suppose it takes time to collect the veins and arteries to make the new leg!"

Kalim (Friends son aged 4)
Kalim. "Where has your other leg gone?"
Carol. "It was poorly, so the doctor had to cut it off."
Kalim. "You could get him to stick it back on with some sticky tape."
